Wilmington Consortium
History:
Beginning in the 1990s, Delaware’s infant mortality rate was increasing while the national trend was decreasing. This trend prompted Governor Ruth Ann Minner to convene an Infant Mortality Task Force in June 2004.

In May 2005, the Task Force’s final report put forth a three-year plan with 20 recommendations to reduce the high infant mortality rate in Delaware. The plan called for the creation of the Delaware Healthy Mother & Infant Consortium (DHMIC) to help ensure that the recommendations were put into effect.

The Wilmington Consortium was re-established in the fall of 2007 and has worked with the DHMIC, specifically the Education & Prevention committee, to promote health messages since.
Mission: To promote perinatal health, improve health outcomes and prevent infant mortality in the city of Wilmington.
Focus: Partnerships, Grassroots Outreach, Education
